No Food on the Table for Christmas
2021-11-10

It is no secret that poverty exists in our communities and nation. The question begs to be asked: what effect has Covid-19 had? The Guardian says that “Social scientists have called the pandemic a “threat multiplier”, taking existing social problems, and compounding their force.” It is becoming evident that families who haven’t needed support in the past have found themselves lining up for food parcels as Covid-19 hit their households with job loss and financial strain; and we also recognise the number of children in foster care.

The reality is that, as the Christmas season approaches, many families will be struggling to survive rather than dreaming of their Christmas ham and salad options.

ARISE has always had the heart to serve our community and share the love of Christ through action. As the church, we can't sit back and do nothing as our fellow Kiwis struggle to make it through the Christmas season. That is why we have partnered with our friends at Christmas Box and Oranga Tamariki.

Through Christmas Box we are able to provide food boxes with essentials and Christmas treats for families in need; and through Oranga Tamariki we are providing gifts for foster children who otherwise might go without.

This year, with more kiwis in need of help we are rallying our church together to continue to be the light in this world. We want to make a tangible difference where we can.

As the church, we are called to serve one another.
